Can Modeling the Geologic Record Contribute to Constraining the Tectonic Source of the 1755 CE Great Lisbon Earthquake?

The precise location of the seismic source 1755 CE Great Lisbon earthquake is still uncertain. aim this work to use an onland sedimentary record in southern Portugal test and validate sources for earthquake. To achieve this, tsunami deposit thicknesses from over 150 cores collected at Salgados were compared results a sediment transport model (Delft3D-FLOW) that simulates propagation, inundation, erosion, deposition. Five different hypothetical modeled with varying bed roughness coefficients assess how well they reproduced observed patterns dune. Modeled historical arrival times also used sources. Based on these comparisons, three able reproduce data, suggesting should be regarded as somewhat more likely contrast four other fault closest shore (Marquês de Pombal) yielded best correlations between observations.
